I am a self-diagnosed workaholic. Not entirely proud of that label, but it’s true. I have a very hard time taking time for myself to rest and recharge. But, I’m here to tell you that the burnout is not worth it. In fact, resting helps you be able to be more productive in the long run. So it’s really a win-win situation. No burn-out, but still getting to work harder.
Here are 4 nighttime routine tips that I recommend doing after a long day that will help you regain the strength you lost from your busy day.
Tip #1: Spend time on a hobby.
No, Tik Tok doesn’t count. Neither does Instagram. Or Facebook. I mean do something that’s enjoyable and good for you. Mindless scrolling rots your brain, so instead, read a book (I may be biased but the Bible is a pretty good one), paint or draw, make a craft, listen to music- whatever brings you joy. If you feel like you don’t really have any hobbies, then try a new one! Spending time doing something you love for no reason other than for enjoyment is absolutely a form of rest and self-care.
Tip #2: Bath time!
Take a hot bath. Put some epsom salts in. Light a scented candle. Put on a face mask. Maybe put on some soothing music. Just relax. Don’t think about anything that happened in the day, just clear your mind and rest. Warm up your towels and bathrobe in the dryer, give yourself a little facial, use some sugar scrub. I’m telling you from experience, doing this at least a few times a week is a total game-changer.
Tip #3: Watch the sunset with a cup of tea.
Okay, maybe it’s cloudy. Or raining. But still. Make some tea, sit in a cozy spot by a window, and again, just relax! It’s okay to let your mind have a break from thinking all day. Be sure to make a caffeine-free tea so that you can fall asleep easily and get a good night’s rest.
Tip #4: Put the phone down before bed.
This one might be the hardest for some, but it’s probably one of the most beneficial. Blue light from our screens can signal our brains that it’s time to be awake, absolutely messing up our circadian rhythm. Instead, read a book (did I mention that the Bible is a good one?), listen to music, or just relax in bed for at least 30 minutes before going to bed. Seriously, just give it a try. You can do it.
These tips may seem really simple, but they’re sure to help you rest up after a long day of work! Give them a try, and send me an email to let me know how they worked for you! :)
