Being “Outdoorsy” Wherever You Are
You know you’ve had that feeling.
The feeling that you can’t be a true hiker, outdoors enthusiast, or “granola girl” without the proper location or expensive attire.
And I’m here to tell you… you’re wrong.
That’s right.
You don’t have to be the most outdoorsy to be… outdoorsy!
Now, it’s also okay to want or to have those things. My absolute dream is to buy a van, convert it, and live on the road full time. I just cannot wait to park in the most gorgeous places, wake up to birds and beautiful sunrises, hike all around the country… But, since I’m not there just yet, I’m taking other steps to spend as much time outside as I can, and you can too!
In fact, in a few short months, I’ll be moving to the city to gain some job experience before taking on travel nursing. I’ve never lived in the city before, so it will definitely be an interesting experience. But, one of my main goals while living in the city is to make sure that I make lots of time to get outside and be in nature.
So, let’s look at a few simple ways that you can be “outdoorsy" wherever you are!
1.) Find someone to go outside with.
Going alone can sometimes be rejuvenating or relaxing, but I personally find that having someone to go with you can really help you get outside more often. You can keep each other accountable, in a way, to make sure that you hit your weekly nature goals! It’s a great way to catch up with friends, chat with your loved ones, and take fun pictures!
2.) Just… go outside. Seriously.
Find a local state park, or just a park, or a trail, or a bike path, or just walk through town! Get some Vitamin D and fresh air in any way that you can! You really don’t have to travel across the country for that!
3.) Put the phone away.
It really is that DANG PHONE!!! This one seems pretty self-explanatory to me. Put down the tiny little light box and touch some grass.
4.) Enjoy one of your typical hobbies… just moved outside!
Whether it be painting, reading, writing, or listening to music- take it outside! Find a comfortable spot to re-read your favorite book, a nice shady tree to paint under, or a pretty park to sit at while listening to relaxing music.
Getting outside doesn’t have to be difficult, and you don’t have to climb Mount Everest to be “outdoorsy.” Just get out there!
