Having a good start to your morning truly sets you up for success for the rest of your day. Let’s get started with 5 essential parts of a good morning routine that are sure to get your day going in the right direction.
1.) Wake up early.
I know, this one is going to be hard for some of you. As a natural early bird, this one comes pretty easily to me, but I seriously think it’s worth it. Now, if you’re a “wake up at 11 am” type of person, let’s not get overly ambitious and try to start waking up at 5 am. Baby steps, okay?
But seriously- waking up before the day even really starts?! How cool is that? It’s like free time! But it’s necessary time to ensure you can fit in the next couple of tips that I’m about to tell you.
2.) Spend time with God.
What better way to start your morning than with the One who created you? Spend time in His presence, in the Bible, and in prayer. Find a quiet place in your home, apartment, or dorm- wherever you are! Grab some coffee, a cozy blanket, and your Bible, and you’re ready to go! You can start your prayers with gratitude and thanksgiving, and end with asking for strength and guidance for the day ahead. Talk to Him about anything that’s weighing on your heart, and cast all of your cares on him. Let go of fear, anxiety, and uncertainty, and trust Him to guide you through the upcoming day.
3.) Move your body.
You don’t have to do your full-hour gym sesh right now (I mean, more power to ya if you do!), but it’s always good to get those endorphins flowing first thing in the morning! I know I always feel better after a short walk, stretch, HIIT, or pilates video. Getting your muscles moving can improve mood, and mental focus, and reduce stress. So set out your workout clothes the night before, and you’ll be ready to go.
4.) Drink plenty of water.
You just slept for (hopefully) hours, and your body is thirsty! Drinking water first thing in the morning can help you to rehydrate after this “water fast.” Dehydration can easily lead to feelings of fatigue, which is not part of our plan here! Being well hydrated can help your cognitive function, digestive system, skin health… There’s a reason we can’t live without water you know! So kickstart your water-drinking habits by having a glass as soon as you wake up! Or, buy a cute water bottle to help you reach your hydration goals!
5.) Get ready.
Even if you’re not going anywhere, sometimes getting dressed and doing your hair can set your mind up for productivity! (Unless it’s a nice lil’ rest day… then, by all means, lounge in your sweats.) Throw on your favorite jeans and shirt, fix up your hair, and get to work on whatever it is that needs to be done. Study day? You’re ready to tackle it. Deep-clean-the-whole-house day? No problem. Working from home? You got this.
There you have it: my top 5 morning routine tips for a great day. I hope that these tips will help you just as much as they’ve helped me! So, let’s set those alarms and get ready for the morning!
