Letting Go & Trusting God.

One thing that I often struggle with is letting go of things.

I replay conversations over and over in my head. I ruminate on the past, and what could have been. I struggle to understand why things happened the way that they did.

But the good news is: we don’t have to do this. It’s a hard habit to break, but we are to cast all of our worries upon the Lord.

Our humanly desire is to make sense of things and to prepare for the worst, in some sort of attempt to make ourselves feel better or rationalize.

Why did this person say that? Why did this thing happen… and this other thing not happen? What if something bad happens? What should I do next?

I think and worry about things all too frequently. But as Matthew 6:27 says, “Can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life?" (The answer to that, as you can imagine, is no.)

Anxiety weighs down our hearts (read Proverbs 12:25), and so, we must cast our anxieties on Him, because He cares for us (read 1 Peter 5:7).

Letting go requires surrender. Trusting God requires faith. With both surrender and faith, we can find peace. We don’t need to understand why we were disappointed, why things didn’t work out, or why life went in the direction that it did. But we can find peace in knowing that God will take care of us.

This isn’t to say that life is always easy, even with God. In fact, it’s probably fair to say that it’s hard more often than not. People fail us, jobs wear us down, school burns us out, and plans don’t come to fruition. The list goes on. But, even when things are hard, we have God to turn to and to lean on. And that is a beautiful thing.

Psalm 139:23-24

23 Search me, God, and know my heart;
    test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me,
    and lead me in the way everlasting.

Remember: pray about it as much as you worry about it <3
