God and Nature.
I have always felt closer to God when I’m out in nature. For the longest time, I couldn’t quite put my finger on the reason as to why… But I think I’m starting to understand a bit more.
First of all, there are less distractions. Less noise. Less technology. Less things. My mind is able to focus and not be so overwhelmed with constant flashing lights and noise. There’s nothing but birds singing, wind whispering through the trees, and water rushing somewhere off in the distance. It is much easier to feel near to Him when I am not focusing on other things. Admittedly, I should be able to focus more on Him even in the craziness, but being in nature does make it easier. I think this may be part of why I long so badly to live on the road and in the mountains and forests, owning fewer things, and having days without cell service.
I also think that, as an artist, I really admire nature as an art form. God’s creation. The most original art that there is. The art that every other art is based on. He designed the color palettes, the shadows, the reflections. There is so much beauty and so much detail, that every time I am out in nature, I notice something new, and am in complete awe of His work.
In general, I don’t think that people spend enough time outside. We are glued to our phones, at work all day, or just lounging around our homes. While the work part can’t really be omitted, I think that it’s important that we find balance. Instead of spending that extra hour scrolling through social media, head outside and go for a walk. Instead of sitting around on your days off, drive to the nearest forest, trail, or state park, and find yourself on a small adventure. Spend time with God while you’re at it. No distractions, just trees, water, birds, and the Lord. Trust me, you’ll feel the difference.
